You would think an experienced traveler would have more sense, but I scheduled not one, but two trips during the recent Super Bowl festivities. The second of these trips was to visit with alumni. My date of departure for the second trip was the day after the Super Bowl, which also happened to be the day after the Waste Management Open PGA event, which together translated into thousands of visitors leaving Phoenix. My first trip went smoothly, but the second trip was an entirely different … [Read more...] about Ben Franklin, Tranquility and the Folly of Traveling during Super Bowl Weekend

How Much Income Do You Actually Need in Retirement?
One of the most common questions that we get from clients nearing retirement is, “How much income am I going to need to be comfortable?” It’s an important question that gets right at the heart of the retirement puzzle. Although we wish we could give you a round number right here, that just isn’t possible. Too much depends on your personal situation. Future Smart or Future Gullible
I can predict the future. Believe me, I can. It’s just that I can’t predict it 100 percent accurately all the time. For example, I can predict that at least some readers who get beyond the first couple of sentences of this book review will continue to read it all the way through. I can also predict that those who don’t read it all the way through will do something else instead. I’m 100 percent certain of that. I also predict that sometime today, you’ll have something to eat and that later, … [Read more...] about Future Smart or Future Gullible
One Last Opportunity to Get Health Coverage
Under the Affordable Care Act, the government set up certain rules on when individuals can enroll for health insurance. For 2015, the open enrollment period ended on Feb. 15. It usually goes something like this, “What advice do you have for a new business owner (or CEO, president or general manager)?” While that is a very general question, in my mind, they … [Read more...] about First Three Things All Business Owners Should Do

Peru Harnesses a Career of Helping for United Way Role
Longtime Flagstaff resident Steve Peru has spent most of his career helping people. He will now use that experience – and the relationships he has built – in his new role as president and CEO of United Way of Northern Arizona (UWNA). Firefighters Preparing for Fire Season
Up until the recent heavy winter storm that hit in early March, Northern Arizona was experiencing an unseasonably warm and dry winter, causing some concern about the upcoming fire season. “The storm brings us closer to the normal range of conditions for moisture, but the severity of fire season depends on a number factors, a lot of which have yet to play out,” says National Weather Service Flagstaff meteorologist Brian A. Klimowski, Ph.D. Nonetheless, because of years of work to thin the … [Read more...] about Firefighters Preparing for Fire Season
