We have a couple of bonds that the city has placed on the ballot this November: Propositions 441 and 442. Prop 442 is a housing bond, but I really want to discuss our Prop 441, the Fire and Water Infrastructure Bond. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of this bond for Flagstaff’s future. It includes four sections, which include: purchasing five new wildland fire trucks for a little more than $2 million, helping to increase stormwater infrastructure in the Spruce Wash for $26 million, … [Read more...] about Considering Fires, Floods and Flagstaff’s Future

Capturing Pet Souls on Canvas
When the order went out June 12 to evacuate from Doney Park as the Pipeline Fire advanced rapidly, Timberline resident Minda Simmons knew it was of the highest priority to evacuate and save her pets: two big dogs, golden retriever, Shiloh, and herding dog, Onyz. She also evacuated her two horses. “The dogs were loaded up first and then the horses, Gypsy and Sunny, into their trailer, which I hooked up and had ready to go.” Simmons recalled. An ancient medical journal describes a remedy for “ear that hears badly,” which included injecting olive oil, red lead, ant eggs and bat wings, among other substances into the ears! In Ancient Greece, there are mentions of hearing loss as early as the 10th century. Today, we understand more … [Read more...] about How Viruses May Cause Hearing Loss
Starter Homes Offering Affordable Housing Solution
Years ago, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona’s (HFHNA) Board of Directors realized that inflated home prices and cost of goods would eventually exacerbate the affordable/workforce housing issue in Flagstaff, thus becoming less financially sustainable for HFHNA to build three- or four- bedroom Habitat homes. In response to these economic changes, an idea of creating a forced savings program through homeownership would allow HFHNA to build more, serve more and be the change in housing … [Read more...] about Starter Homes Offering Affordable Housing Solution
