Grand Canyon Celebrates Summer by Waiving Fees
On Tuesday, June 21, Grand Canyon National Park will be joining national park units around the country in welcoming summer with a fee-free day. The National Park Service will be waiving entrance fees on June 21, 2011. Visitors who arrive on Tuesday, the 21st will be allowed to enter the park free of charge. Fires Prohibited on Forest
Fire restrictions remain in effect on the Coconino National Forest. Under these restrictions, fires, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves are allowed in developed campgrounds only. The restrictions also limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles, buildings or in developed campgrounds. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns, and heaters that can be turned off are allowed. Ticket Prices Rising for FSO and NAU Skydome
Ticket prices to events in the Skydome and Flagstaff Symphony concerts in Ardrey Auditorium will increase by $2 this year and another $2 next year, Northern Arizona University has announced. Wallow Firefighting Progress and Flood Preparation
Firefighting officials say the Wallow Fire in Eastern Arizona is 18% contained this afternoon, after consuming 469,407 acres. 36 structures have been lost, with 2,714 threatened. As crews work to prevent spread of the fire into New Mexico, 4,734 personnel remain fighting the fire. Some roads remain closed, but the Arizona Department of Transportation has reopened State Route 260 this afternoon between the Hawley Lake turnoff and the South Fork junction.
