Another Fire in Oak Creek
Residents of Oak Creek Canyon are back in their homes after another fire forced an evacuation yesterday. The Junipine Fire is just south of Junipine Resort in Oak Creek Canyon and has burned about 12 acres. Residents were evacuated during firefighting efforts yesterday, but the evacuation order was lifted at 9:00 p.m. The Red Cross shelter at Sinagua Middle School was reopened to assist displaced people. The San Juan Hotshots were the first on the scene as local Girls Scouts from Troops 61 and 474 delivered nearly 200 boxes of their famous cookies to the Slide Fire Camp. “The girls wanted to thank the firefighters for their hard work and for keeping their communities safe,” said Troop Leader Nikki Lober.
