Northern Arizona is now home to a new bioscience company developing antivenoms against Arizona’s common venomous animals. The new company, BioVeteria Life Sciences LLC (BioVeteria,) has chosen Prescott as a home base for their veterinary operations. They have active rattlesnake and scorpion antivenin programs underway. Governor Jan Brewer has asked her state agencies to prepare for a possible shutdown of the federal government beginning Saturday, April 9. This shutdown would impact non-essential federal programs, facilities and properties. Snowbowl Moving Forward With Expansion Plans
Arizona Snowbowl near Flagstaff is moving forward with expansion plans, after an attempt to block development was denied. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the request filed by the Save the Peaks Coalition and a citizens group. They say construction and use of snowmaking equipment would harm the environment. Coconino County recently received the results of an in-depth Hydraulics Study of the Schultz Fire/Flood area. The Hydraulics Study was conducted to understand the expected routes, depth and velocity of flood water under various storm events. The study reveals over 300 homes are at high hazard risk due to deep water and/or high velocity of water.
