Multi-Tasking Women Take On Positions of Power
Here's the scenario. Supper’s cooking on the stove while you run a few loads through the washer. The youngest is howling over a scraped knee. The middle one needs help with math and the oldest “just wants to finish this level” on his video game before he takes the dog – who is clawing at the door – outside. Hubby just got home and is looking for the cocktail he hopes you had the foresight to mix. The phone is ringing. Oh, yes...and you still … [Read more...] about Multi-Tasking Women Take On Positions of Power

Hunting and Fishing Businesses Boost Local Economy
People in Flagstaff don’t realize how much impact we have on the local economy,” said taxidermist and sports- man Steve Favour. Indeed, activities such as hunting, fishing, and birding provide significant financial support for the local economy. “Hunters out in the field still come into town for a hot meal, gasoline, and groceries. A lot of times, when a guy drives in from Louisiana, he will spend his first and last night in a hotel,” Favour added. Melendez had concerns about starting a business in a down economy, yet felt confident that he had earned positive name recognition and could easily reestablish another Tacos Los Altos. “It’s not what we would want it to be as far … [Read more...] about Arizona Leading Trend of National Startups
Wind Sidelining Truckers in Northern Arizona
Ah, the weather. Everybody talks about it, but nobody ever does anything about it. That old joke has a bitter edge for truckers crossing I-40 during Northern Arizona’s windy season. Though the area has always been prone to spring and fall winds, it is only over the last two years that authorities have had to close I-40 in the interest of public safety because of wind and blowing, choking dust. In 2008, wind and dust-related closures were confined to I-10. But from March to June 2009, … [Read more...] about Wind Sidelining Truckers in Northern Arizona

The homebuyer tax credit created a surge in home sales earlier this year. We asked local experts how they plan to keep the momentum going through the summer. “The biggest push in the momentum from the tax credit was with first-time home buyers,” said Paula Monthofer, president-elect of the Northern Arizona Board of Realtors. Horizon’s Departure Negatively Impacting Businesses
If you haven’t heard, Horizon Air is departing from Flagstaff, but this time it is for good. Questions abound, including whether the airline’s exit from Flagstaff and Prescott will affect area businesses. Locals say yes, but maybe not to a huge degree. Still, several area company representatives say they enjoy jumping on a short flight from Flagstaff to Los Angeles. Without that option, many will choose to drive to Phoenix to catch a flight out of Sky Harbor, or other … [Read more...] about Horizon’s Departure Negatively Impacting Businesses
