The Flagstaff City Council is moving forward with the idea of allowing sidewalk cafes in the city. Council members voted last night to allow the change for restaurants; establishment owners will be allowed to lease sidewalk space for customer seating in areas with sidewalks greater than eight feet wide. Mayor Jerry Nabours says the city, in accordance with state law, is required to charge rent, but that a fair rate should be applied to the citywide ordinance.
Additionally, the council passed a 95-acre development off Soliere near Country Club Drive. While construction is still several years off, the development is expected to include commercial and residential properties both high and low density. Urban trails will also be part of the development off Soliere, which, is expected to be realigned to better serve the increased traffic in the area.
