Mayor Jerry Nabours, Vice Mayor Coral Evans, Council members Scott Overton a and Mark Woodson and City Manager Kevin Burke spent two days at the Capital last week addressing key community needs to our congressional delegation including; funding for the Rio de Flag, Forest Health, and Pulliam airport.
To specifically address the Rio de Flag, the city delegation met with Senators’ John McCain and Jeff Flake, Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, and Congressmen Ed Pastor and Paul Gosar. Congresswoman Kirkpatrick was also able to bring the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, Jo Ellen Darcy. Assistant Secretary Darcy oversees the Army Corp of Engineers.
Mayor Nabours said he is pleased with the results of the trip. “We have worked tirelessly to secure funding for the Rio de Flag flood control project. Part of those efforts included a visit to key lawmakers last week, including Representatives Kirkpatrick and Gosar who have steadfastly supported this project, and decision makers within the Administration. The results of these important efforts have yielded this important funding to continue this project that is critical to the City’s growth and vitality,” Nabours said.
City Manager Burke notes the importance of going to meet in Washington DC. “Obtaining the dollars associated with the repair of the Clay Avenue Wash Detention Basis is a critical next step that couldn’t be achieved without this face-to-face meeting with the Corp and the OMB,” Burke said.
The City of Flagstaff has also been informed that Colonel from the Los Angeles Army Corp of Engineers District, which is responsible for the Rio de Flag project, will be visiting Flagstaff to look at the project and talk with City official in the next few weeks.
